When I was a kid around ‘96–‘97, I discovered a software disc called Encarta ‘97–2000 — a digital encyclopedia that sparked my creative curiosity. My first deep dive was into the life and legacy of one of the greatest musicians ever: Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong.
I used to imitate his voice, especially when he sang “What a Wonderful World.” His sound, spirit, and smile made me feel the power of art — how music could heal, inspire, and unite people through the hardest times.
This piece is my tribute to that magic.
It reimagines Louis Armstrong performing in the present-day Essence Fest or NOLA Jazz Renaissance, bridging generations through color, rhythm, and creativity. The bold lines and neon tones echo the vibrancy of New Orleans, while the phrases — “Potato Head Blues,” “Muggles,” “What a Wonderful World” — pay homage to his timeless sound.
Each shirt represents a part of my story — gratitude, inspiration, and the roots of creativity that shaped me into the artist I am today.
